Aviation Chairman Lott: $4 Million Headed For Airports In 14 Mississippi Counties

Washington - Federal funding totaling more than $4 million is approved for various airport improvements in Tishomingo, Bolivar, Prentiss, Chickasaw, Marshall, Webster, Madison, Choctaw, Alcorn, Union, Tippah, Montgomery, Lauderdale and Oktibbeha counties, U.S. Senator Trent Lott, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Aviation Subcommittee said today.

"Improving Mississippi’s airport facilities means better safety for individuals who use these facilities as well as increased leverage in the ongoing effort to secure existing jobs and attract new ones," Senator Lott said. "I am pleased these communities will be receiving this federal grant funding, and I will continue working with other federal, state and local officials to support aviation improvements throughout our state."

In Lauderdale County, funding totaling $1 million will be used to rehabilitate the apron, remove obstructions and construct an access road at Key Field in Meridian;

In Prentiss County, funding totaling more than $407,000 will help conduct an environmental study and acquire land for approaches at Booneville/Baldwin Airport;

In Tishomingo County, funding totaling more than $302,000 will help strengthen the runway and level the grade of the runway at Tishomingo/Iuka Airport. Also in Tishomingo County, funding totaling more than $212,000 will help remove obstructions, acquire land for approaches and install perimeter fencing at Belmont/Tishomingo Airport.

In Montgomery County, funds totaling more than $384,000 will support the extension of a runway at Winona-Montgomery County Airport.

In Bolivar County, funding totaling $246,000 will help expand the apron, construct a taxiway, rehabilitate the runway and remark the runway at Cleveland Municipal Airport;


In Chickasaw County, funding totaling more than $175,000 will help improve an access road, rehabilitate a runway and rehabilitate an apron at Houston Municipal Airport. Also in Chickasaw County, an additional $99,000 help install runway lighting, expand the apron, extend the taxiway and improve a hanger taxiway at Richard Stovall Field - Okolona Municipal Airport;

In Marshall County, funding totaling more than $123,000 will be used to install perimeter fencing at Holly Springs-Marshall County Airport;

In Webster County, funding totaling more than $187,000 will help improve an access road at Eupora/Webster Airport;

In Madison County, funding totaling $150,000 will assist with the installation of weather reporting equipment and help install a vertical/visual guidance system at Bruce Campbell Field;

In Choctaw County, funding totaling more than $119,000 will help rehabilitate a runway lighting system, install wind cones and rehabilitate airport beacons at the Ackerman/Choctaw County Airport;

In Alcorn County, funding totaling more than $166,000 will help rehabilitate runway lighting, improve signs, rehabilitate the runway, install fencing and update the airport master plan study at Roscoe Turner Airport in Corinth.

In Union County, funds totaling more than $156,000 will help construct a taxiway at New Albany-Union County Airport;

In Tippah County, funds totaling more than $158,000 will support the installation of runway lighting, taxiway lighting and the rehabilitation of the runway at the Ripley/Tippah Airport;

In Oktibbeha County, funds totaling more than $106,000 will help rehabilitate an apron at George M. Bryan Airport in Starkville;

Each grant will be administered through the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration.
